Item type:Publication, Exploring the relationship between organizational values and small team performance: A Delphi method application(Centre for Evaluation in Education and Science (CEON/CEES), 2021); ; ; The objective of this article is to examine the relationships between organizational values and the performance indicators of an organization. Two work teams were analyzed in a restaurant. To achieve the objective, a Delphi method was developed that allowed knowing the level of consensus of the members of the teams studied among a group of previously identified values, allowing to identify those values that had greater importance and regulation for each team. Through the Mann-Whitney statistical test, the relationship between values and customer satisfaction and productivity were examined, aspects that were measured in the organization studied for each work shift, where the teams analyzed worked. The research made it possible to prove the relationship between values and customer satisfaction directly and productivity indirectly, demonstrating that the work team showed greater consensus on its values in terms of importance and level of regulation showed better results in the dependent variables analyzed. The research carried out allowed the quantitative validation of the hypothesis that the shared values that regulate the behavior of the employees studied are closely related to the performance indicators. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Beyond Quality: Predicting Citation Impact in Business Research Using Data Science(MDPI AG, 2025-09-05); ; ; ;Margarita De Miguel-GuzmánThe volume of scientific publications has increased exponentially over the past decades across virtually all academic disciplines. In this landscape of information overload, objective criteria are needed to identify high-impact research. Citation counts have traditionally served as a primary indicator of scientific relevance; however, questions remain as to whether they truly reflect the intrinsic quality of a publication. This study investigates the relationship between citation frequency and a wide range of editorial, authorship, and contextual variables. A dataset of 339,609 articles indexed in Scopus was analyzed, retrieved using the search query TITLE-ABS-KEY (management) AND LIMIT-TO (subarea, “Busi”). The research employed a descriptive analysis followed by two predictive modeling approaches: a Random Forest algorithm to assess variable importance, and a binary logistic regression to estimate the probability of a paper being cited. Results indicate that factors such as journal quartile, country of affiliation, number of authors, open access availability, and keyword usage significantly influence citation outcomes. The Random Forest model explained 94.9% of the variance, while the logistic model achieved an AUC of 0.669, allowing the formulation of a predictive citation equation. Findings suggest that multiple determinants beyond content quality drive citation behavior, and that citation probability can be predicted with reasonable accuracy, though inherent model limitations must be acknowledged. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Digital Organizational Resilience in Latin American MSMEs: Entangled Socio-Technical Systems of People, Practices, and Data(MDPI AG, 2025-10-10); ; ; ; This study develops a systemic framework to conceptualize digital organizational resilience in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as an emergent property of entangled socio-technical systems. Building on theories of distributed cognition, sociomateriality, and resilience engineering, this paper argues that resilience does not reside in isolated elements—such as leadership, technologies, or procedures—but in their dynamic interplay. Four interdependent dimensions—human, technological, organizational, and institutional—are identified as constitutive of resilience capacities. The research design is conceptual and exploratory in nature. Two theory-driven conceptual statements are formulated: first, that natural language mediation in human–machine interaction enhances coordination and adaptability; and second, that distributed cognition and prototyping practices strengthen collective problem-solving and adaptive capacity. These conceptual statements are not statistically tested but serve as conceptual anchors for the model and as guiding directions for future empirical studies. Empirical illustrations from Ecuadorian MSMEs ground the framework in practice. The evidence highlights three insights: (1) structural fragility, as micro and small firms dominate the economy but face high mortality and financial vulnerability; (2) uneven digitalization, with limited adoption of BPM, ERP, and AI due to skill and resource constraints; and (3) disproportionate gains from modest interventions, such as optimization models or collaborative prototyping. This study contributes to organizational theory by positioning MSMEs as socio-technical ecosystems, providing a conceptual foundation for future empirical validation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Improving Scheduling Efficiency: A Mathematical Approach to Multi-Operation Optimization in MSMEs(MDPI AG, 2025-04-28); ; ;De Miguel Guzmán Margarita; Optimizing the use of resources is a key aspect of organizational management. Various methods have been developed and applied to optimize different variables, including sequencing methods that aim to minimize work time. This paper presents an integrated approach for optimizing the sequencing of operations, considering indicators such as usage time, completion time, waiting time, delivery delay, and flow time. A multi-criteria optimization method with weighted aggregation was used, employing either an exhaustive search or a heuristic algorithm with nested loops, in which multiple possible combinations of operational sequences were evaluated, considering several key indicators and their respective weights. The application of the methodology in a press validated its effectiveness, providing managers with key information to prioritize the indicators according to their needs, whether optimizing resource usage or minimizing waiting times and delays. The application resulted in a 95.3% improvement in the level of utilization; a 79.3% reduction in the average completion time; a 90.5% reduction in machine waiting time; and a 90.9% decrease in product delivery delay. The results show that prioritizing the objective function leads to a balanced optimization of all indicators, improving operational efficiency and reducing flow time. This study contributes to the body of knowledge on production scheduling by offering a novel multi-criteria optimization approach in manufacturing settings. The validated methodology can be adapted to a variety of industries and offers flexibility to align with the specific interests of each organization. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Bias in Citation Visibility: Temporal Dynamics and the Unequal Life Cycle of Academic Articles. Evidence from SME and Internationalization Research(MDPI AG, 2025-12-01); ; ; ;Margarita De Miguel-GuzmánThis study analyzes the temporal evolution of citations received by academic articles in the field of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and internationalization processes, with the aim of identifying patterns of growth and decline in scientific visibility. Based on a dataset of 1936 articles retrieved from Scopus, we constructed an article–year panel that enabled the application of multiple statistical approaches. Discrete-time survival models showed that the annual probability of receiving at least one citation is initially low, increases slightly until the fifth year, and then declines progressively thereafter. Negative binomial regression confirmed significant growth during the first five years, followed by a slowdown. Kaplan–Meier estimations reinforced this finding by showing that the cumulative proportion of articles receiving their first citation within a decade remains limited. These results confirm that citation dynamics are nonlinear and subject to early obsolescence, with most visibility concentrated in the short term. Importantly, this temporal bias in indexing and evaluation systems disproportionately favors recent publications while undervaluing older but still influential research. Such structural bias has profound implications for visibility and equity in scholarly communication, especially for disciplines and regions where citation cycles are longer. The findings thus validate the study’s propositions: first, that citation growth slows significantly after the fifth year, and second, that this slowdown represents a structural bias that amplifies inequities in research evaluation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Variables de la responsabilidad social corporativa. Un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales(Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador, 2022-09-29) ;Luis Arnolis Reyes Ramírez ;Caridad Leyva del Toro;
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Contribution margin and quantity matrix to analyze the product portfolio in the context of SMEs. Criticism of the BCG matrix and its alternatives(Informa UK Limited, 2023-09-06); ; ; Product portfolio analysis is a critical aspect of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) strategic planning and decision-making. It helps SMEs assess their existing product offerings, identify areas for improvement, and make well informed decisions about which products to keep, discontinue, or add to their portfolio. This type of analysis is crucial for SMEs as it enables them to optimize their product mix, allocate resources effectively, and respond to market changes, thereby ensuring growth and profitability. The objective of the research is to present a new product portfolio analysis tool that SMEs with a more efficient and effective way of evaluating their product offerings paying attention to those that cause a negative impact on performance. The Contribution Margin and Quantity Matrix (CMQ matrix) enables SMEs to gain a deeper understanding of their product mix, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions about which products to keep, discontinue, or add to their portfolio. This can lead to increased efficiency, better resource allocation and increased competitiveness, ultimately contributing to the success and profitability of the SME. The proposed instrument allowed decisions to be made after being applied in the analysis of the product portfolio of a retail store. The application of the proposed matrix allowed the analysis and decision making in relation to the product portfolio of an SME, facilitating an improvement in the performance indicators of the products studied. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Toward Building Model of Business Closure Intention in SMEs: Binomial Logistic Regression(MDPI AG, 2025-06-24); ; ;Guzmán Vilar Laritza; This study reframes closure intention in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as an ex ante diagnostic signal rather than a post-mortem symptom of failure. The survey evidence from 385 Ecuadorian SMEs was analyzed in two stages; confirmatory factor analysis validated the scales capturing environmental pessimism and personal pressures, and a structural equation model confirmed that both latent constructs directly heighten exit propensity. A binomial logistic regression model correctly classified 71% of the cases and explained 30% of variance. Five variables proved decisive: low-level liquidity (OR = 0.84), a high debt-to-equity ratio (1.41), weak profitability (0.14), negative environmental perceptions (1.72), and a shorter operating tenure (0.91); the sector and the firm size were non-significant. The combined CFA-SEM-logit sequence yields practical early warning thresholds—debt-to-equity ratio > 1.4, current ratio < 1.0, and ROA < 0.15—that lenders, advisers, and entrepreneurs can embed in dashboards or credit screens. Recognizing closure intention as a rational, strategic step challenges the stigma surrounding exit and links financial distress and the strategic exit theory. Policymakers can use the findings to pair debt relief and liquidity programs with cognitive bias training that helps owners interpret risk signals realistically. For scholars, the results highlight closure intention as a dynamic learning process, especially pertinent in emerging economies characterized by informality and institutional fragility.
