Item type:Publication, Habilidades Esenciales para el Éxito del Emprendedor Ecuatoriano(Universidad UTE, 2021-12-01) ;Gelmar García-VidalLaritza Guzmán-VilarThis article presents a study that determines the skills considered essential for entrepreneurs from a theoretical and practical point of view. For the development of this research, two phases were developed, the first was oriented to the analysis of the existing agreement between Ecuadorian entrepreneurs on the skills that, according to the analyzed literature, contribute to the success of a business; and the second to verify the agreement in the results obtained and validate the skills identified. The study involved 10 experts and 400 entrepreneurs, considered successful, to identify what they considered to be essential skills for the success of a venture based on skills recognized in the literature. The results made it possible to consistently identify the essential entrepreneurial skills in the Ecuadorian context with high statistical significance, which leads to suggest that these skills should be enhanced in the training of incipient entrepreneurs already consolidated in the market. Through the research, it was conclusively revealed that the entrepreneurs studied consider that these skills are facilitators of the success of their businesses, so their mastery could contribute to reduce the mortality rate of both new and established businesses. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Steering through the landscape: A study on entrepreneurs' perceptions of business environments(Centre for Evaluation in Education and Science (CEON/CEES), 2025) ;Gelmar García-Vidal ;Laritza Guzmán-Vilar ;Alexander Sánchez-Rodríguez ;Reyner Pérez-CampdesuñerRodobaldo Martínez-VivarThe purpose of this research is to analyze the perception of the environment by SME owners and managers. The research methodology used in this study involved collecting information from 384 SME owners-managers from different sectors of the economy in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador. Proportional stratified sampling was used with 95% confidence and an error of 5%. The data was collected through a self-administered cross-sectional survey questionnaire that aimed to get SME owner-managers to describe how they perceive their environment making a combination of the value of each variable. The study applied categorical principal component analysis (CATPCA) to identify the component structure of social capital by considering the ordinal and nominal nature of the data. The methodology used allowed us to understand the perception of the environment by different SME owner-managers from different sectors of the economy. It also revealed the strategic approach they considered most appropriate to the market situation in which they operate. The practical implications of this research suggest that SME owner-managers can benefit from understanding the perception of the environment by adopting flexible and adaptable solutions to changing environmental conditions, using environmental profiles to uncover opportunities, and anticipating changes to gain valuable insights. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Relationships between well-being, resilience, leadership, and perceived success in SME owners-managers of Ecuador(Arts and Science Press Pte. Ltd., 2024-02-29); ; ;Laritza Guzmán-Vilar; This paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of entrepreneurial success among owners and managers of Ecuadorian SMEs through the relationship between variables such as business efficiency, psychological resilience and perceived entrepreneurial leadership. We surveyed 385 SME owners and managers in Ecuador and employed hierarchical linear modeling to analyze the data. The findings of this article suggest that entrepreneurial well-being, psychological resilience, and entrepreneurial leadership perceived by owners and managers of Ecuadorian SMEs are positively correlated with entrepreneurial success. There may be a tendency to associate success with economic performance. The practical implications of this study are that owner-managers of SMEs can use the developed measurement scale to evaluate their success and identify areas where they may need support or improvement and develop strategies to foster the best possible business experience. The study also provides insights into factors affecting entrepreneurial success and highlights the importance of promoting a positive entrepreneurial experience. In addition, the study contributes to literature by identifying some limitations and identifying areas for future research.
