Item type:Publication, Hereditary gingival fibromatosis: A Case Report.(Facultad de Odontologia, Universidad de Concepcion, 2021-06-30) ;Daysi Morocho-Monteros ;PARISE VASCO, JUAN MARCOS ;Danela Cisneros-BoadaMANZANO FLORES, ELCIRA SABELA
Introduction: Hereditary gingival fibromatosis is a rare disorder with a genetic component that may appear during tooth replacement. This condition can cause functional and aesthetic pro-blems such as malocclusions, diastemas, pain when chewing, dental caries, periodontal disease, delayed eruption, among others. Objective: To report the multidisciplinary treatment provided to a patient with hereditary gingival fibromatosis. Case Report: This report describes the treatment carried out in a thirteen-year-old male patient presenting generalized increase in gingival volume associated with functional and aesthetic compromise and delayed eruption of permanent teeth. After diagnosis, a multidisciplinary intervention was proposed, involving perio-dontal and pediatric dentistry procedures, which improved the quality of life of the patient both functionally and aesthetically. Conclusion: Hereditary gingival fibromatosis not only affects the dental eruption process, but also causes aesthetic and emotional alterations in the patient. The periodontal procedures significantly im-proved the appearance, function, and the psychological state of the patient.
Scopus© Citations 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Rehabilitation of a Child with Denari Prosthesis after Dental Avulsion(Hindawi Limited, 2022-06-24) ;César Sebastián Arcos-López ;PARISE VASCO, JUAN MARCOS ;Ana Armas-Vega ;Yecenia Carrillo-AzueroSreekanth Kumar Mallineni
Prosthetic rehabilitation in cases of premature loss of temporary teeth always is a procedure that must be carried out in a planned and integral manner. The avoidance of opposing tooth extrusion, loss of horizontal space, and acquisition of bad oral habits are fundamental to not trigger alterations in the child’s occlusal development and psychological development. The purpose of this document is to report the clinical case of a 4-year-old patient with avulsion of the anterior primary teeth secondary to severe automobile trauma. In this case, we describe the use of a Denari-type fixed partial prosthesis. This prosthesis can recover the function and aesthetics of the superior anterior sector of the oral cavity, thus preventing lingual interposition. The treatment with the Denari prosthesis allowed satisfactory results relating to the transverse growth of the maxillary bone in this case report.
Scopus© Citations 1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Effectiveness of the use of platelet-rich fibrin associated with open flap debridement compared to open flap debridement alone for the treatment of periodontal intrabony defects: Overview of systematic reviews(Medknow, 2023-05) ;Oswaldo J. Padrón-Molina ;PARISE VASCO, JUAN MARCOS ;Paula E. Zambrano-Achig
In the recent years, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has gained importance in regenerative medicine due to its attributed tissue-inducing properties. However, it is still unclear whether there are benefits from using PRF with open flap debridement (OFD) for the treatment of intrabony defects compared to OFD alone. For this reason, in this study, we performed an overview of systematic reviews with Friendly Summaries of the Body of Evidence using Epistemonikos methodology on the use of PRF with OFD compared to OFD alone for the treatment of intrabony defects. We performed a systematic search in the Epistemonikos database. We extracted data from the included systematic reviews and reanalyzed the data of primary studies and generated a summary of the findings table. We used Review Manager (RevMan) v5.3 software and GRADEpro software for data analysis and data presentation. Eighteen systematic reviews were included after full-text screening, which had 16 clinical trials. Results were reported by the mean difference (MD); the following outcomes were analyzed: change in intrabony defect depth (MD: 1.37 mm more), change in radiographic bone defect filling (MD: 37.26% more), change in probing depth (MD: 1.22 mm more), change in clinical attachment level (MD: 1.32 mm more), and change in gingival margin level (MD: 0.31 more). We concluded that applying PRF with OFD to treat an intrabony defect has some clinical advantages compared to OFD alone.
Scopus© Citations 4 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Use of enamel matrix- derived proteins combined with bone graft for the treatment of intrabony defects: Overview of reviews (FRISBEE review)(Facultad de Odontologia, Universidad de Concepcion, 2023-12-31) ;PARISE VASCO, JUAN MARCOS ;Andrea Gavilánez-Sánchez
Introduction: The use of enamel matrix-derived proteins (EMD) has increased in recent years due to their tissue-inducing properties that support periodontal regeneration. This study is an overview of systematic reviews with FRISBEE methodology on the use of EMD alone or combined with autologous bone graft materials (BGM) in the treatment of intrabony defects. Materials and Methods: A systematic search in the Epistemonikos database was performed. RevMan 5.3 and GRADEpro were used for data analysis and presentation Results: Four systematic reviews and two clinical trials were identified. All studies analysed change in probing depth, clinical attachment level, gingival margin level and bone defect depth (all changes in favour of EMD+BGM groups: mean difference (MD): 0.37 mm more, MD: 0.7 mm more, MD: 0.3 mm less, MD: 0.75 more, respectively). Conclusions: Adding autologous bone graft to EMD to treat intrabony defects showed better results, but not a relevant clinical difference compared to the use of EMD alone. Item type:Publication, Prevalence of Dental Caries in Schoolchildren from the Galapagos Islands: ESSO-Gal Cohort Report(Hindawi Limited, 2023-12-11) ;Ana Armas-Vega ;PARISE VASCO, JUAN MARCOS ;DÍAZ SEGOVIA, MARIA CRISTINA ;David Alejandro Arroyo-BonillaMaría José Cabrera-Dávila
Objective. Dental caries remains a prevalent disease worldwide. Several epidemiological studies have shown that it affects the oral health of the pediatric population, and the Galapagos population in Ecuador is no exception. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of dental caries and its association, based on baseline information from the Galapagos Oral Health Study (ESSO-Gal), in children of the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 804 children aged 2–11 years. The prevalence of dental caries was assessed using the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS II) criteria, while the presence of dental biofilm was assessed using the Silness–Löe index. Descriptive statistics, including frequency analysis and measures of central tendency and dispersion, were performed. Inferential statistical analyses were conducted to identify associations between variables. Statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS version 25.0 statistical program. Results. The caries prevalence rates based on ICDAS II codes 1–6, 1–2, and 3–6 were 98.01%, 96.9%, and 85%, respectively. A statistically significant difference was observed among the different islands regarding the cutoff point for ICDAS II codes 3–6 ( <math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" id="M1"> <mi>p</mi> <mo>≤</mo> <mn>0.001</mn> </math> ). Participants aged 6–11 years had the highest caries prevalence. Conclusions. The results show a high prevalence of dental caries among children in the Galapagos Islands, which increases with age. Contrary to expectations, the study did not find a significant correlation between the severity of dental caries and the presence of dental biofilm.
Scopus© Citations 6 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
