The progression of MASLD, which can lead to severe complications like hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis, is closely tied to cardiometabolic risks, including cardiovascular disease, and to liver-related cancers associated with metabolic dysfunction. Endocrinologists are uniquely positioned to detect MASLD early, particularly in individuals with metabolic risk factors such as T2D, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and thyroid dysfunction. While they may not routinely perform advanced diagnostic procedures, they play a critical role in identifying at-risk patients and collaborating with specialists for further evaluation, including the use of transient elastography to assess liver stiffness and fibrosis. By doing so, they help reduce the need for invasive procedures. Beyond screening and diagnosis, endocrinologists collaborate with hepatologists, cardiologists, and nutritionists to ensure a comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment approach. Managing MASLD requires addressing both liver-specific conditions and broader metabolic dysfunctions through lifestyle interventions and pharmacological therapies. Recent studies highlight the potential benefits of medications, such as farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonists and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) agonists, when combined with lifestyle interventions such as modifying diet and engaging in more physical activity. This review highlights the pivotal role of endocrinologists in managing MASLD, focusing on their contributions to screening, diagnosis, and integrated care. It examines the complex interplay between hormonal regulation and both pharmacological and non-non-pharmacological treatment strategies, providing insights for enhancing clinical practice and improving patient outcomes through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Next-Generation sequencing in a Native American patient with sea-blue histiocytosis: A case report and genomic analysis(Medwave Estudios Limitada, 2025-08-08); ; ; ;Mateo Antonio RodríguezThis study presents a case of a 25-year-old Native American woman from Otavalo, Ecuador, diagnosed with sea-blue histiocytosis and myelodysplastic syndrome. Bone marrow aspiration revealed sea-blue histiocytes, and next-generation sequencing identified a likely pathogenic stop-gain mutation in the gene, associated with myelodysplastic syndrome. Additionally, variants of uncertain significance were found in the and genes. Ancestral analysis showed a predominantly Native American composition, suggesting a potential genetic predisposition specific to Andean communities. KatsanosObesity significantly affects gastrointestinal cancer surgery outcomes by creating complex challenges throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative stages. This narrative review explores the intricate relationship between obesity and GIC surgery, highlighting the dual burden of obesity as a global public health issue and a determinant of surgical complications. The review aims to analyze physiological and technical hurdles, including limited visibility, prolonged operative times, increased perioperative risks, and adverse recovery outcomes associated with obesity. Evidence emphasizes the critical role of excess visceral fat, systemic inflammation, and insulin resistance in elevating surgical risks. Mitigation strategies involve preoperative nutritional optimization, use of advanced surgical technologies such as robotic-assisted and laparoscopic systems, and individualized postoperative care, encompassing early mobilization, tailored pain management, and close monitoring of metabolic parameters. Despite advancements, knowledge gaps remain, particularly regarding sarcopenic obesity and the long-term impact of preoperative dietary interventions. Future research should focus on refining minimally invasive techniques, integrating personalized medicine, and exploring innovative perioperative protocols to address obesity-related risks effectively. Healthcare professionals’ attitudes toward depression may affect its prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Objective: To categorize Latin American healthcare professionals’ attitudes towards diagnosis and management of depression in subgroups using the Spanish-validated Revised Depression Attitude Questionnaire (SR-DAQ). Methods: A cross-sectional study surveyed 2,409 professionals using SR-DAQ from 2019 to 2022. Latent class analysis and multinomial logistic regression were used to identify attitude classes and explore demographic influences. Results: Among our sample, four attitude classes were identified: Depression Skeptics (21%), Depression Cautious (33%), Depression Neutrals (18%), and Depression Advocates (28%). Gender and medical subspecialty significantly influenced class membership, with females and mental health specialists more likely to be part of the Advocates. Conclusion: The study reveals varied attitudes towards depression among Latin American healthcare professionals, suggesting the need for tailored public health strategies to enhance effective depression care and management. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Multifunctional MXenes nanocomposite platforms for biosensing and wearable sensor technologies(Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2025-02-01) ;Ali Mohammad Amani ;Hesam Kamyab ;Ehsan Vafa ;Alireza JahanbinMilad AbbasiMXenes are nanostructures with unique characteristics, such as hydrophilicity, large surface area, strong metallic conductivity, strong ion transport capabilities, biocompatibility, minimal diffusion barrier, and easy functionalization, which make these compounds suitable for bioanalytical applications. These materials are formed of transition metallic nitrides, carbides, or carbonitrides. Owing to their unique properties, MXenes have gained interest in various fields, including sustainable energy generation, fuel cells, supercapacitors, electronics, and catalysis. The composition and layered structure have made MXenes particularly appealing to biosensing applications. They can be used in electrochemical biosensors because of their high conductivity and multilayered architecture, which ensure the retention of activity in immobilized biomolecules. This review highlights the application of MXenes in electrochemical and optical biosensors, identifying future requirements and potential in this sector, particularly in the development of wearable sensors and platforms with integrated biomolecule detection.
